AGING, RETIREMENT, GRIEF & LOSS

Aging is a natural process for all of us, but we may experience  concerns and difficulties as we strive to accept or adjust to losses and limitation such as:

Health and medical issues, higher risk for dementia, increased physical limitations,  pain disorders, injuries, and illnesses.

Losses,  such as death of parents,  spouse, or other significant family members and close friends can reduce our support systems and produce deep feelings of loss and grief.

Retirement can be difficult  to transition to due to lack of structure, boredom, and reduced income, among others. Spending more time with the spouse and grandchildren may be rewarding and very stressful.

Some adults may experience, discrimination and bias, such  as Ageism.

All of the above processes, can produce or exacerbate existing issues such as depression, anxiety disorders, and especially PTSD.

Therapy can be quite helpful as individuals as individuals attempt to navigate through the transition into old age and find new meaningful activities and purpose in life.
